It's a wrap on Remote Learning!

Last day of 5th and 7th grade!  I have two middle schoolers now.  Send in support. 

The first day of school this year on the left and the last on the right.  Luca noticed he is wearing the same shirt!  So, there is some consistency. Notice how much Boston has grown in a year!  She's our GIANT best friend. 

Fifth Grade Graduate!

Luca graduated from fifth grade!  Which means, that we as a family have graduated from elementary school.  I was a bit more heartbroken about this than I ever imagined I would be.  That sweet little school has done a lot for the kids, and I always felt safe knowing they were down the trail every day at the school we know so well. 

The loss for everyone this final quarter of school has been tremendous, but both Mia and Luca handled it like champs.  The reality of never going back to his school though hit Luca hard when I had to collect his things.  I brought home a bag with his name on it, and all of his desk's contents.  It was like a scene from Pompeii, as if ash had covered the classroom and frozen that moment in time, and we carefully excavated it all at home.  There won't be any of the final 5th grade activities: Colonial Days, the graduation, the pool party for all of the newly minted 6th graders.  They did what they could online and still gave a sweet send off but it's hard having to end with a trickle like this. 

His teacher stopped by with a sign for our front lawn and rose for me.  If we had a graduation, the parents who are leaving the school because this is their last child there, get a rose.  I cried when he handed it to me.  Clearly I'm emotional. 

Congrats Luca!  We are so so so proud of you.  No matter where you go and what you do, we'll always be right beside you. 

Here is Mr. Fisher and Luca as he came to visit us!  Socially distanced of course.  This was a hard way to say goodbye. 

Last day of 5th grade!

I love this side by side.  First day of kindergarten on the left (he wouldn't even allow me to take his first day of school photo without his sister in the picture) to his last day of 5th grade.  We're so proud of him.  

The Dog Days of Quarantine (literally)

We are lucky to live in such a beautiful place so we find ourselves outside almost all of the time.  We joke that this period in history will go down as Boston's favorite, because her four humans are with her at all times.  These really are the dog days of quarantine.

We had one crazy snow storm that blew in and left us housebound for a day.  Boston is part husky, so she was in heaven. 

Mia and Boston are my running buddies.  Being on the trail with them is the best. 

A beautiful hike with our girl. 

Great big baby. 

Her friend Maui comes over still to play.  These two met in puppy school a year ago and are thick as thieves.  Boston waits for Maui by the fence when you say that he is coming over.  She cries when he leaves.  

Luca Turns 11!

Luca turned 11 on May 3rd, during "Shelter at Home".  This sweet kid didn't complain once.  We made the day extra special with a surprise donut breakfast, biking to get sandwiches for lunch, pizza from one of his favorite pizza shops and an ice cream cake.  We had to cancel our original plan to go back to Great Wolf Lodge but he knows we'll celebrate all over again when we can.
