I took Mia downtown with me to the rally at the capital that teachers across the state were participating in.  We are all seeking more funding for education and the best way to shine a spotlight on an issue is to peacefully bring attention to it.  Luca was too sick to join us but it was really fun having Mia there with me.  

I love love love this portrait that Mia painted of herself through a 19th century lens.  She has been studying colonialism in school and was inspired by those studies.  She, like me, loves history and we both love to picture ourselves during various times in the past.  

Luca's First Communion and Confirmation

Congratulations to Luca!  He had his first communion and confirmation on Saturday, May 5th.  He was worried about wearing his suit over his cast but it fit beautifully and you couldn't even tell.  He isn't super thrilled about anything with this broken wrist so if he looks a bit mad in the pictures, it's because he is.  

When you get confirmed, you choose a sponsor and he chose Nana.  I love that he chose her because she is the best role model and he is so comfortable with her.  He chose St. Sebastian as his confirmation name. 

We celebrated with cake (more cake!!)

Happy 9th Birthday Luca!

We had a rough week leading into Luca's 9th birthday.  He fractured his left wrist playing with a friend outside and then just a few days later got the flu!  He missed a week of school and was feeling really low about now being able to participate in any of his planned birthday activities.  We made the best of it with a fun family dinner and ice cream cake.
