Moments

Mia is a chef and a baker.  She loves food - shopping for it, cooking and baking with it, and eating it.  It's so fun to have a fellow foodie to try new things and perfect the old.  Last weekend she tried her hand at french macarons and they turned out great!  These moments of watching her in the kitchen are indeed sweet.

I try to protect intimate moments and not post anything that infringes on anyone's personal or private space.  Like sleeping photos.  But I went in to wake Mia the other morning and carefully turned on her nightstand light with my gentle cajoling.  These two slept all night together.  Bijou is too old to do much on her own, needing help up and down the stairs, outside, etc.  These moments are precious and not one slips by me unnoticed.  This is my children's childhood, and my sweet dog's sunset, and yet they share it.  Happily.

Tilly and Mia had a date night with Nana.  They went to church and then out to dinner and had a sleepover at Nana's house.  So cute to get this picture via text of their dinner out.

It has been unseasonably warm this winter....strange.  One day last week, when it was particularly beautiful, the kids and I headed out on a bike ride/run after work on Friday.  It was the perfect way to end the week - being outside on a trail.  We stopped at the school playground on our way home and the kids began swinging and just goofing off.  I told them that when I was right about their ages, my friend Amy and I would meet at the park and hang out in the early evenings and play...just like they were doing.  Watching them do silly things on the swings, chat, kick rocks....it all brought me back.  It was a moment in which their childhood felt like mine, and for a brief whirlwind of the mind, we were kids together.

I found this picture on the website for the Kids Adventure Race, which Brynn and Mia will compete in again this summer!  How great is this shot?  A moment before the race began of  shared excitement and friendship.

Happy 2018

Happy New Year!  We went downtown during the day and had a great time ice skating and checking out the calm of the city before the evening parties began.  We ended up at a book store wondering around with coffee.  It was heaven to be a tourist in our own beloved city.

The kids had the following week off, after January 1st.  So we filled it with more fun things.  Rock climbing, an arcade, the museum, and a movie.  This break has been a bit magical, and I can't put my finger on why.  We're all hesitant to head back into life as we know it.  We can do it though! Happy 2018!
