Life lately...

We're in the groove of winter, which is humming along nicely.  None of us have hit our "winter wall" where we randomly appear in the kitchen in a swimsuit because we just can't handle it one more day.  I'll be sure to take a photo of the moment when one of us breaks, because it is inevitable.  Here are a few pics of our life lately...

We LOVE basketball season.  The games are fast paced, and, INSIDE!  No muddy fields to contend with.  The games are actually great to watch this year!  Each passing year, the boys develop that much more.  Here is Luca and his buddy, with the same number.  Had to laugh at that mix up.

These two and their hometown pride.

Mia loves swimming.  It's in her veins.  When the pool closed for the season at the end of the summer, Mia reluctantly dragged herself out of the water and asked when she could get her punch card for the rec center pool to begin getting ready for the swim season again.  She convinced me last week and here she is, with a bunch of other adults, swimming lap after lap after lap.  Now don't go thinking I'm a "swim mom" hanging on the sidelines telling her to go faster.  I kept checking my watch and asking, "Ready to go get a smoothie or something yet??"  After swimming an IM, which she plans to compete with this summer, she poked her head up, and said, "Mom, if I don't decide to go to the Olympics with swimming, I'm going to become a doctor, a pediatrician, and be a mom too."  Had to laugh that she was planning her life as she swam in silence.

My other babies...my students.  I always tell them I'm exhausted from having so many children.  I took them to the Museum and we had a blast.

"Just relaxing" they said.

The kids earn allowance and Luca had earned enough for a trip to Dicks Sporting Goods (his favorite place).  He shopped carefully, finding that CU hat he's wearing and that mini Bronco helmet on the table next to him.  I send the kids alone to the register and let them handle the transaction by themselves.  I stand within ear shot.  The hat was on sale, but then rang up way less than the sale price.  I saw Luca's confusion and the cashier leaned over and said, "Listen buddy, this is great news, you just scored and get to keep a lot of that money now."  Luca was beaming.

He set out to buy a Standford hat but stores here only carry our local schools.  He sighed when he heard this news and said, "Fine, I'll just get the Stanford hat when I go there I guess."  Love the spirit.  I'm pushing for Boulder all the way though.  So, seeing him in my school pride makes my heart happy.

Ronnie Hillman

We brought the kids to a bar for dinner and to meet a Bronco player, Ronnie Hillman.  They had a ball!
Luca is an avid football fan and brought his new football for Ronnie to sign.  He packed it in his backpack this morning to bring to school to show his friends.

Mia was so excited too!  She had Ronnie sign a tiny little football so she can keep it on her desk.

Ushering out the Old and Welcoming the New

I took the kids to the Colorado History Museum which has such fun memorabilia from this area.  The Barrel Man served this duty for 30 years!  They had a mini barrel for the kids to try.

We went up with some friends to Breckenridge and the kids had a blast.  It was zero degrees, as in FREEZING.  Here we are getting ready to go get into the hot tub in negative weather.  Our hair froze into icicle strands as we sat in the hot water with a bit of snow falling on us.  It was magical.

Happy New Year!  We welcome you 2016....and all you bring.  This year will be great!
